Ingredients
- 3 1/3 cups (432 g) vanilla cake mix
- 1 cup (136 g) whole wheat flour
- 1 cup (250 mL) natural honey
- 1 cup (250 mL) sour cream, at room temperature
- 1 cup (250 mL) milk, at room temperature
- 1/4 cup (57 g) Earth Balance® Original Traditional Spread, melted
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) unsweetened applesauce
- 4 egg whites, at room temperature
- 1 tsp (5 mL) almond extract
- 1/4 tsp (1 g) salt
- PAM® Baking No-Stick Cooking Spray

Step one
Preheat oven to 350˚F (180°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pans (or line bottom of each pan with parchment paper).

Using electric mixer, in large bowl, beat together cake mix, flour, honey, sour cream, milk, melted butter, applesauce, egg whites, almond extract and salt for about 2 minutes or until well combined.

Step three
Pour batter into prepared pans and smooth tops. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until tester comes out clean when inserted into centre. Let cool completely on rack.
Tips
Serve cake with fresh berries or frost cake with Cream Cheese or Creamy Milk Chocolate Frosting.
